Export Documentation and Procedures

IEDA's International Trade Office, ISU's CIRAS and the Greater Des Moines Partnership are hosting in-person international export training seminars. The first day (May 7) will cover export compliance and tariff classification, with the second day (May 8) expanding to cover more advanced topics in export documentation and procedures. The program will cover:

  • How to prepare an export quotation
  • Importance of landed cost
  • Understanding of Incoterms 2020 and payment terms
  • Determining country documentation requirements
  • Commercial vs. transport documentation
  • Proforma vs. commercial invoice
  • How to prepare a complete and accurate commercial invoice
  • How to prepare a proper packing list
  • Understand non-preferential and preferential certificates of origin
  • The role of the freight forwarder in preparing documentation
  • Cargo insurance vs. carriers liability
  • Basics of air and ocean freight

The trainings will be presented by Bob Imbriani, an expert in international transportation and logistics. He is currently Executive Vice President, International for Team Worldwide and President of Team Ocean Services for Team Worldwide, Ltd. and Team International Trade Services.

Both classes are in-person only and there is limited capacity for each training. Participants may register for one or both through the registration link.
