$949,100 in CAT Grants Awarded to Projects in Hiawatha, Guttenberg
July 12, 2018 (Des Moines) – The Enhance Iowa Board awarded $949,100 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to a library expansion in Hiawatha and an aquatic center in Guttenberg. The Enhance Iowa Board approved the award at yesterday’s meeting in Cedar Falls.
The following project was approved:
Project Name: Expansion and Renovation of the Hiawatha Public Library, Hiawatha
Total Project Cost: $3,869,113
Amount Requested: $468,887
Amount Awarded: $468,887
Project Description: This project will renovate the existing 8,543-square-foot space and adds another 13,457 square feet to the facility. The construction will allow for dedicated youth and young adult areas, additional computer workstations for patrons, study room and a conference room. A new basement will create storage and house the HVAC system.
Project Name: Wave of the Future, Guttenberg
Total Project Cost: $4,057,000
Amount Requested: $481,213
Amount Awarded: $480,213
Project Description: The new aquatic center will feature zero-depth entry; water features; an energy-efficient, ADA compliant bathhouse; shade structures; six 25-meter lap lanes; a one-meter diving tower with 13-foot diving depth; and a water slide.
The Enhance Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. To date, 35 CAT awards have been granted by the board, totaling $11,707,902. The next Enhance Iowa Board meeting is scheduled for August 8, 2018, in Danville.
