$850,000 in CAT grants awarded to projects in Dubuque, DeWitt
January 10, 2019 (Des Moines) – The Enhance Iowa Board awarded $850,000 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to a Miracle League ballfield and all-inclusive playground in Dubuque and a library expansion in DeWitt. The awards were approved at yesterday’s meeting in Urbandale.
The following projects were approved for grants awarded from the Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) Fund:
Project Name: Miracle League of Dubuque Baseball Field & All-Inclusive Playground, Dubuque
Total Project Cost: $3,432,950
Amount Awarded: $500,000
Project Description: The Miracle League ballfield and all-inclusive playground will be constructed in Dubuque’s Veterans Memorial Park. The new Miracle League Drive will lead to a completely ADA-accessible, lighted parking lot, walkway, ballfield, play area, picnic areas and benches. A support building located at the park entrance will house concessions, restrooms, a quiet room and storage.
Project Name: Frances Banta Waggoner Community Library, DeWitt
Total Project Cost: $5,487,098
Amount Awarded: $350,000
Project Description: The DeWitt library will expand from 7,500 square feet to 21,000 square feet. The expanded building will increase the children’s and teen areas, as well as add additional computer workspaces, new meeting and study rooms and a storytime room.
The Enhance Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. To date, 43 CAT awards have been granted by the board, totaling $14,263,226. The next Enhance Iowa Board meeting is scheduled for February 13, 2019, in Des Moines.
