Bondurant home to Iowa’s newest Certified Site

November 4, 2019 – (DES MOINES) – Today, State of Iowa and community officials announced a site in Bondurant is the latest to be designated as project ready through the state’s Certified Site program, managed by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). It joins 27 other sites across state that have been certified.

“Having certified sites like the one in Bondurant gives us a tremendous advantage in attracting outstanding companies to Iowa,” said Gov. Reynolds. “In a highly competitive world, a certified site shows that a community is serious about being a place for businesses and jobs to grow. They bring opportunity, investment and further prosperity to our state. Congratulations to Bondurant for having the foresight and tenacity that will pay dividends in the future.”

The 169-acre, Fortner-Eshelman Property is located on the south side of Bondurant, adjacent to Highway 65 and within easy access to Interstate 80. The transportation infrastructure around the site makes it ideal for light industrial or warehouse distribution purposes. Additionally, in early October, the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Transportation Commission approved a RISE (Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy) grant for the site. This commitment will help attract RISE-eligible businesses by providing up to 60 percent funding to make any necessary nearby roadway improvements.

“The City of Bondurant has wanted to develop the area where the site is for quite some time now,” said Bondurant Mayor, Curt Sullivan. “The Certified Sites Program is helping us achieve that goal. We know Bondurant is a great place to live, work and play, so now, we’re focused on strengthening the employment opportunities here. Considering the interest this site has generated so far, we’re already looking for other areas to potentially certify!”

Site certification remains one of the most important factors in the site selection business. It is a rigorous process that ensures developers – working closely with local officials, utility partners and consultants – are better prepared to market their sites with specific site-related information and community data. Additionally, all the due diligence is completed, and plans are in place to mitigate any identified issues, making the site relatively risk-free, and accelerating the development timeline.

Twenty-eight sites have been designated through the Iowa Certified Sites program since it was established in May 2012. Three additional sites are currently working through various phases of the program. The next round of applications will be accepted in January 2020.
