AG TRADE MISSION TO THE PHILIPPINES & VIETNAM
March 24 - April 1, 2023
This trade mission will focus on the Iowa livestock, grain, meat processing industries, along with the affiliated Iowa livestock and agriculture industries and associations. Vietnam and the Philippines are burgeoning markets with an appetite for U.S. agricultural goods and services. Agricultural exports across both grain and protein commodities have both countries as emerging opportunities to target, especially given global unrest in the commodity markets. The IEDA team will develop a dynamic itinerary alongside industry partners, with meetings coordinated with government entities, commodity importers and agricultural interest groups to engage in trade discussions. For more information, contact Brad Frisvold at firstname.lastname@example.org or 515.348.6241.
TRADE MISSION TO CHILE & PERU
This is a multi-industry trade mission and is open for any Iowa manufacturing and commercial companies. The targeted Latin American countries of Chile and Peru are rapidly growing economies. Both countries have free trade agreements with the U.S., which provides opportunities for reduced barriers and increased profitability. For more information, contact Andrea Smith at email@example.com or 515.348.6240.
INTERNATIONAL TRADE OFFICES IN IOWA
The ITO was excited to welcome our trade offices from Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia and China to Iowa in May after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. This was the first visit to Iowa for some representatives, so we were thrilled to showcase a few of Iowa’s industry leaders, innovation across sectors, cultural amenities and an educational farm visit. Public events and one-on-one meetings provided opportunities for Iowa exporters to connect with offices in regions of export interest. To learn about the individualized services offered in 34 countries with our global representatives, including market information and analysis, partner search, virtual or in-person customized business appointments and more, contact the team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ITO PROFESSIONAL STAFF DEVELOPMENT
The international trade field is constantly changing and evolving with new challenges, practices and innovations. IEDA’s ITO staff continues to build on their solid base of industry experience with ongoing education and trainings to ensure we are bringing best practice to Iowa exporters. The team participated in a variety of events this year to stay abreast of market and industry conditions, trends, best practices, compliance and more, including from the State International Development Organizations (SIDO), annual Washington Forum, NASBITE’s annual conference for Certified Global Business Professionals (a credential three team members hold), U.S. Meat Export Federation’s Spring Conference, Food Export Association of the Midwest’s Marketing Director’s Meeting and multiple webinars.
IMPORT AND EXPORT COMPLIANCE TRAINING – ALLOCCA ENTERPRISES
The ITO was excited to bring Mike Allocca of Allocca Enterprises, nationally known expert in international trade compliance logistics and free trade agreements, back to Iowa virtually for two training sessions this spring. The two-part webinar series provided valuable information and checklists for Iowa companies involved in international trade. The Import Compliance webinar on April 27 focused on compliance with all U.S. import regulations and was valuable for experienced or first-time importers to raise awareness of the dos and don’ts of importing. Participants left with a better working knowledge of the important roles and responsibilities of the importer, custom broker, and freight forwarder. The Export Compliance webinar on May 4 was ideal for exporters of all experience levels, and covered topics including licensing, documentation, HTS classification and EEI filings. If you have questions about import or export compliance, or would like additional resources or training, contact Andrea Smith at email@example.com or 515.348.6240.

The Kosovo Consulate is the first foreign consulate in Iowa and has assisted travelers between Kosovo and the U.S., conducted educational exchange programs, and promoted science programs, technical development and arts and culture between Iowa and Kosovo. The Consulate will now add full consular services offerings, including passport renewal, emergency passport issuing and attestation certificates for Kosovo citizens, which will increase connections and reinforce sustainability.
GLOBAL FEED EXCHANGE AT WORLD PORK EXPO
