Nearly $75,000 in CAT grants awarded to projects in Winterset, Keokuk
March 13, 2019 (Des Moines) – The Enhance Iowa Board awarded $73,878 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to a historic bridge renovation in Winterset and pickleball courts in Keokuk. The awards were approved at today’s meeting in Urbandale.
The following projects were approved:
Project Name: Rebuild Cedar Covered Bridge, Winterset
Total Project Cost: $298,816
Amount Awarded: $57,727
Project Description: The project will include constructing a 130’ long by 14’ 11” bridge with three approach spans. The bridge will be built on existing concrete piers, which were not compromised by the fire. A support system consisting of structural steel rather than wood will be used to increase fire and weather resistance.
Project Name: Keokuk Parks Foundation Pickleball Court Project, Keokuk
Total Project Cost: $111,369
Amount Awarded: $16,151
Project Description: This project will convert an under-utilized, deteriorating tennis court on North 5th Street to six pickleball courts.
The Enhance Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa. To date, 46 CAT awards have been granted by the board totaling $14,737,104. The next Board meeting is scheduled for April 10 in Malvern.
